If you wanted to grow some good, solid turfgrass, but you only wanted to do three things to make that happen, what would be the best three things to do? We put this question to Richard Buckley, Director of the Rutgers Plant Diagnostic Lab. Here are the three things he said matter the most:

  • Turfgrass Species Selection – Pick the right grass for your site, management capabilities, and intended use.
  • Good Fertility – Soil test and provide proper nutrition to your turf.
  • Precision Irrigation –  Irrigate to avoid drought and dormancy without wasting water or stimulating disease.

Thanks, Rich! Rich teaches many turf topics here at Rutgers, including the upcoming category 3B recertification class (turf) on October 15.
